About Stelvyn Mirabal
Stelvyn’s connection to Carnaval is rooted in family and community. His uncle shared the tradition with him, and his father, Rafael, was a tailor who made Carnaval suits. After arriving in the United States, Stelvyn joined the folkloric dance group at Club Los Trinitarios and continued practicing the traditions he carried from the Dominican Republic.
Around 2000, Stelvyn organized a comparsa for Lawrence’s Dominican Parade in response to the need for Dominican folkloric traditions in the city. That informal Mirabal family group grew into the Asociación Carnavalesca de Massachusetts, which now shares its culture through performances, exhibitions, workshops, and educational programs.
